New sources In a growingly international marketplace, have you ever considered the possibility of publishing foreign books like Viz and Dark Horse have done in the past? I think both Europe and Japan are producing stuff Image should take a look at... And we are looking. I have been in discussion with a French publisher almost ever since I got here--we are looking at all avenues. There are no closed doors here. Well, actually, this "Dark Angel" is apparently the first foreign book published by Image, isn't it? No. Solarlord and Mega-Dragon come instantly to mind. Both of these are Chinese books. I have another Chinese book in the wings. And I'm sure that there have been others. Like I said, there are no closed doors. A good comic is a good comic, regardless it's point of origin. Will Image in the future try out the indie sector of US creators? [I mean, authors we spontaneously associate with Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, Top Shelf, etc] We have a on-going commitment to indie creators. One could argue that i personally am the first "indie" guy to be a part of Image. Certainly, the record clearly indicates that we have championed many (Jeff Smith, Colleen Doran, Jimmie Robinson, Scott Morse, Brian Wood, Terry Moore, Don Simpson, the list is quite extensive). Would we like to publish talents along the line of Chris Ware or Seth or the Hernandez Brothers? Of course! Who wouldn't? But, they would have to approach us and, from what I can see most of these people have long standing and good relationships with their current publishers and are not really shopping. |
