The origins Image's original crew was: Erik Larsen, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, and yourself. Eight years afterwards, although McFarlane still writes his book, only Larsen continues to write and draw the title he conceived for Image ¾ one I enjoy very much by the way. Isn't this a sign that something has gone wrong? No, I don't believe so. People change, they grow and they evolve over the course of time. Todd is running a multi-media empire, Marc is as well, I'm running Image Comics. There is no small amount of creativity in running a business, as anyone who has done so will tell you. There is nothing "wrong" about anyone expanding their perameters and moving beyond where they started. In point of fact I would argue that it's perfectly "right." In the early days, respected creators such as John Byrne and Peter David sent harsh comments against Image and foretold a short life for the enterprise. How did you guys inside feel about this negative feedback from fellow creators? It amused us more than anything. We felt it was jealousy. We really didn't get why anyone would begrudge another person their success. As much as I respect these authors, I then thought they were being very very unfair to the longshot, the risky bet you were taking on. Do you bear any grudge against them for their lack of support and solidarity? Me personally? No. At the end of the day we proved every single one of their points wrong, so we won the argument--we're still here after 8 years. Do you think they may have changed their minds over these years? One would certainly hope so, but i really do not know. You'd have to ask them.
